Всего в мире насчитывается около 150 видов черной смородины, 50 из которых можно встретить в Европе, Азии и Северной Америке. В дикорастущем виде можно увидеть его во влажных лесах, на их опушках, в ольшаниках, на берегах рек и окраинах болот, на лугах. Но чаще всего черную смородину можно встретить в садах и на огородах. Свое название ягода получила от древнерусского слова “смородь”, которое переводится как “сильный запах”.
