Caution: Pesticides!

Beautiful fresh vegetables without traces of parasites at any time of the year are now the norm. But along with beautiful vegetables and fruits, pesticides fall on our table, without which these vegetables would not grow and would not reach consumers in this condition. Pesticides – a comprehensive concept that includes various groups of substances used in agriculture to control various kinds of pests and plant diseases: herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and the like.

In modern production, almost all fruits, vegetables, berries and herbs are grown on pesticides. Why? The answer to this question lies on the surface. In the age of advertising and marketing, people choose the “label” rather than the content. Otherwise, how then to explain the love of malnutrition? Everyone knows about the dangers of fast food, and what’s the point, we go to our favorite place again and again and buy such a terrible, but very beautiful and tasty hamburger. But now is not about that. Pesticides are simply indispensable in the control of pests and weeds in the practice of large agricultural complexes. Thanks to pesticides, vegetables grow intact, beautiful and ripen without loss.

Pesticides in products can harm our health immediately in several respects: cardiovascular diseases, allergies, blood diseases and hormonal changes, digestive disorders. These substances are most dangerous for children, since their liver can not yet sufficiently fight them.

How to minimize the harmful effects of pesticides on our health? Below are a few tips, adhering to which, you can minimize the ingestion of pesticides into your body, for which it will be infinitely grateful to you.

  1. Ecological products

Of course, this paragraph applies only to those who have such an opportunity. To grow vegetables and fruits yourself – this is how to provide yourself with biologically pure food. This business, of course, is not the simplest, but for many interesting and entertaining. If you do not have your own garden – it does not matter, you can find gardeners, gardeners in whom you are confident and buy vegetables from them. If you arrange the purchase of vegetables and fruits from familiar sellers in the local market, you can greatly benefit from this. You will know who raised them and in which region. Old women who sell vegetables from their own garden, grow them the old fashioned way and do not use pesticides.

It is never too late to refuse vegetables with pesticides. Even considering that pesticides accumulate in different organs, the transition to environmentally friendly vegetables contributes to a significant reduction in their concentration in the body after just one month. This is evidenced by modern studies of the effects of pesticides on the human body.
For specific plants, pesticides are more likely to accumulate in fruits than in vegetables. The exception is the potato fruit. Great risk of pesticides are apples, pears, grapes, cherries, peaches, as well as cucumbers and zucchini. Significantly lower the likelihood of a large number of pesticides in citrus fruits, plums, bananas and kiwi, and from vegetables – in cabbage, tomatoes, eggplant and radish. Different types of pesticides can get into a fruit or vegetable not only at the growing stage, but also during storage. Sometimes apples are treated with special wax against fungus and other parasites.

  1. Processing

To rid the products of the pesticides that have got into them, you need to wash them. Pesticides themselves break down during storage of vegetables, but if they are washed, they will be three times more effective. Since pesticides accumulate mainly on the surface, fruits and vegetables should be washed and peeled well. After all, we can’t always find out if a manufacturer uses pesticides, and in what quantity. Agricultural research shows that washing and cleaning vegetables removes 30-50% of pesticides. And traditional remedies: salt and vinegar are not effective in this regard. Soaking time also needs to be regulated: if you soak it for a very long time, you can lose useful trace elements and vitamins, so two minutes in cold water is enough. It is better to remove and discard the upper leaves of cabbage; harmful substances accumulate most of all in contact with the environment.

  1. Consider seasonality

We have long been accustomed that the taste of some winter, greenhouse vegetables and fruits is not at all the same as that of those that overwhelm the shelves in the summer. At the same time, fruits that ripen in the season and are transported directly from the garden to the store are less processed by chemicals than those that grow in greenhouses or undergo long-term storage for the winter period. Therefore, it is a smart choice to eat fruits and vegetables in the summer season and limit their consumption if you are not aware of the growing conditions.

Before you go on sale, vegetables and fruits must pass sanitary control. A sanitary certificate is issued based on the results of information provided by the manufacturer and laboratory samples. Imported vegetables and fruits are also subject to such verification. Therefore, it is impossible to say that a domestic product is better than an imported one. But, nevertheless, locally produced vegetables are better than those that have sailed from the seas, even if they are less processed for storage.
