Vegetarianism and a raw food diet – a way to improve the body or a source of irreparable harm?

Everyone knows that vegetarianism as a way of eating excludes animal products from the diet. But most of us have a vague idea of what a raw food diet is. Meanwhile, the answer is obvious. A raw food diet is a way of eating that excludes the consumption of all foods cooked at temperatures above 42 °. Nevertheless, in that case or in another case, the diet is built on the basis of the same principles, we will analyze …

Raw Food and Vegetarianism: Nutrition Principles

Firstly, each meal should include several types of vegetables and fruits that have not been frozen and are ready to eat without any heat treatment. It is a natural food that is low in fat, salt and gluten.

The second basic principle is also predictable – baking, frying, cooking, smoking is excluded. Raw food proponents say that nature itself “prepared the dishes.” Only spinning, drying and pickling are allowed. Fresh juice and sprouted seeds of plants are welcome. Raw food diet is poorly understood, and differs significantly from other diets.

Vegetarianism, as mentioned above, eliminates the consumption of meat products. But not the fact that moving to a raw food diet you can eat meat. Due to the lack of heat treatment, you are unlikely to decide on this. Instead, you can eat raw fish (for example, in the form of sushi, sashimi) and various kinds of nuts and seeds, which are the main source of fat in the diet.

Ideal percentage:

  • 75-85% fruit
  • 10-20% leafy green vegetables, including seaweed
  • 5% of seeds or nuts. Products such as alcohol, caffeine and refined sugar are completely excluded.

Raw food diet: why is the heat treatment of food prohibited?

According to supporters of raw food diet, cooking destroys the enzymes and minerals found in vegetables and fruits. Scientists confirm this, but also indicate that more nutrients are released during cooking. In addition, it is believed that high temperature leads to the breakdown of proteins and the “death” of food. In the process of cooking and pickling food, carcinogens are formed. There is even an argument that cooking contributes to global warming.

Raw food diet: influence, benefits and harms

A raw food diet has been developed relatively recently. Paul Nison gave her wide distribution, being neither a doctor nor a nutritionist, but … a financier from New York. According to him, diet is the main factor that affects the pH level in our body. Since most people eat incorrectly (they consume too many processed foods), their blood is characterized by an acidic pH environment, and should be alkaline. This condition is called acidosis and leads to premature aging of cells throughout the body. Acidification of the body affects the functioning of internal organs, muscles and joints. One of the first fighters for a raw food diet in the United States was Dr. Ann Wigmore. She is the author of many books and publications on this subject.

She pays great attention to the detoxification of the body and insists on a holistic approach, covering the body and mind. She managed to cure colon cancer, allergies and other diseases. Increased consumption of fruits and vegetables reduces the risk of diseases caused by an unfavorable lifestyle.

Such a diet cleanses the body of all toxins, and is easily absorbed. It is beneficial to get rid of extra pounds and cellulite. The food enzyme called lipase, found in raw foods, decomposes under the influence of temperature and helps burn fat. Studies conducted mainly on cruciferous vegetables showed that eating raw vegetables (such as cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli) reduces the risk of developing breast, prostate, and bladder cancers. Eating raw vegetables reduces the risk of developing cancer of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, and stomach cancer.

Due to the high content of minerals and elements, such a diet has a beneficial effect on the appearance of the skin: the skin brightens, shines, the body acquires a tone. A person becomes more healthy. In addition to the diet, you need to take care of your health, lead a lifestyle that is natural for a person close to nature. This is a life full of harmony with oneself and the world. This is life without using other creatures for your own purposes.

A raw food diet, however, does not provide the body with the required amount of protein. Its lack is harmful, especially at a young age. This can lead to impaired growth and development of children, to a decrease in immunity. Therefore, an adequate preparation is a very important element in the transition to a raw diet. The best solution would be to consult a nutritionist. Due to the fact that all products of animal origin are subject to exclusion, in raw foods there is often a deficiency of iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin D and group B. Some note problems with teeth and gums. This diet requires excellent knowledge of the principles of nutrition and the content of each of its components – so as to provide the body with the necessary amount of nutrients daily.

Raw food diet: where to start?

1 step: Enter in the diet such an amount of greens and vegetables that will suit you. Over time, increase this amount.

2 step: To exclude from your diet all preservatives, dyes, enhancers, artificial additives.

3 step: Stop drinking coffee, tea and alcohol. Coffee boosts your level of cortisol, the stress hormone. Drink clean water.

4 step: Refuse everything that contains gluten (from wheat, barley, rye, according to some sources also oats), eat porridge.

5 step: Exclude everything related to milk.

6 step: Stop eating meat, fish.

7 step: Remove from your diet all other boiled foods (for example, cereals). Such a strict diet is assessed either as a way to improve health, or as an attempt to lose it due to dangerous malnutrition. Truth lies somewhere between these extremes.
