The useful properties of raspberries are intuitively clear to everyone, otherwise, there would not be a jar of raspberry jam in every house in case of a cold.

But are we using all the possibilities of a wonderful berry? After all, raspberry is a real gift of nature, deserving to know more about its merits.

Useful properties of raspberries – “what does percent say?”

Fragrant, sweet, with a tart overtone of taste, the raspberry berries bear fruit in mid-latitudes from June to the end of summer (some varieties), and it always turns out to be small, you just do not have time to eat.

Raspberries – a member of a noble family of roses and blackberries, but it is valuable, of course, not the origin. Raspberries – an excellent and concentrated source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, while it is a low-calorie product. In the table – the most important components in terms of their specific weight, looking at them, you understand why the useful properties of raspberries are so diverse.

Useful properties of raspberry: the whole thing in the composition of the berries

  1. In many health food stores, you can find a dietary supplement such as ellagic acid. This substance, belonging to the tannic class, is abundantly present in raspberries and gives it a slightly tart taste. Ellagic acid, a powerful antioxidant, is known to help prevent unwanted damage to cell membranes and other structures in the body by neutralizing free radicals.
  2. Raspberries contain flavonoids – quercetin, kaempferol, cyanidin. Flavonoids are classified as anthocyanins and belong to the group of substances that give raspberries a rich red color. What are remarkable anthocyanins? They have antimicrobial properties that prevent the overgrowth of certain bacteria and fungi in the body (for example, the yeast Candida Albicans – the frequent culprits of vaginal infections and irritable bowel syndrome).
  3. Raspberry has an antioxidant activity of almost 50% higher than strawberries, three times more than kiwi, and ten – tomatoes. But listing the beneficial properties of raspberries, antioxidants should be said.

Antioxidant Retreat

Antioxidants – the big myth of the theory of healthy eating. At first, it was believed that these substances are a real panacea, and the more, the better. The boom of dietary supplements is largely related to this view.

Later, however, scientists admitted that they hurried with overly optimistic assessments, offering the opposite view of antioxidants: in large quantities, they may not only be useless but also necessarily harm.

Nevertheless, when it comes to possible harm, bio-additives are meant, not food products – in the latter the wonderful benefits of antioxidants, which are contained moderately and organically, are not in doubt.

The greatest antioxidant contribution is made in raspberry by ellagic acid, in second place is vitamin C, and then anthocyanins. And one more good news: freezing and storing raspberries do not significantly affect their antioxidant activity (and almost the beneficial properties of raspberries), although the concentration of vitamin C in the freezing process is halved.

   4. What else is contained in raspberries?

  • Acids (malic, citric, salicylic)
  • Cellulose and Pectins
  • Vitamins C, E, PP, B1, B2, B9, carotene
  • Minerals: potassium, sodium, calcium, iron, copper, phosphorus
  • Coumarins – substances that normalize blood clotting.

Raspberry is not just healthy and tasty by itself, it is beautiful in baking – cakes and raspberry cakes.

When do the beneficial properties of raspberries turn into healing?

1.  First of all, we are talking about colds and other diseases, accompanied by fever. Heat treatment retains the most important healing properties of raspberries, so the raspberry jam is almost as useful as the berry, ground with sugar.

2.  Raspberry is successfully used in inflammatory diseases such as sciatica, it relieves painful conditions for arthritis and arthrosis.

3.  Raspberry helps with a number of diseases, reducing bleeding (from hemorrhoidal to heavy menstruation).

4.  Raspberry is a berry of beautiful women, as it, with frequent use in food, makes the skin smooth, tones, and improves the complexion.

5.  Raspberry is a good diuretic, its benefits in kidney diseases have been repeatedly confirmed.

6.  Raspberry is indicated for nervous overloads and, in general, for the normal functioning of the nervous system.

7.  Berry increases appetite (important for those who have a problem with it).

8.  Raspberries – suitable food for people who are on diet and people who have diabetes, as it contains very few calories and practically does not change the amount of sugar in the blood.

9.  There is a study showing that the berry helps to reduce pressure and improves blood composition.

Useful properties of raspberry leaves

Raspberry leaves are popular among gourmet tea parties, they are often included in herbal tea bouquets. It’s nice that, in addition to its delicious taste, raspberry leaves are useful.

They have the same composition as the raspberry, with some differences in the individual components.

Connoisseurs of traditional medicine recommend paying attention to the leaves of raspberry in the following cases:

with cold, high temperature

for all diseases of the oral cavity and throat (stomatitis, laryngitis, etc. – gargling with decoction)

with diarrhea and bleeding of different nature (help tannins with their astringent properties)

Contraindications raspberries

With all its beneficial properties, raspberry has contraindications. The fact is that the berry belongs to the group of products that contain a large amount of oxalate.

Raspberry belongs to the group of products that contain a large amount of oxalate.

It is known that when there are too many oxalates, they can crystallize and cause health problems.

For this reason, people who have stones and sand in the kidneys, bladder, gallbladder, gout, and other diseases associated with elevated oxalate levels should avoid eating raspberries.

A common contraindication is an allergy, which can be not only for raspberries.

And another thing: caution should be exercised when using juice therapy with raspberry juice for those people who have aggravated ulcerative or erosive disease of the gastrointestinal tract.
