Due to its antibacterial properties, kefir is recommended for disorders of the gastrointestinal tract caused by the bacterium Helicobacter Pylori, such as a stomach and duodenal ulcer. In addition, kefir is worth drinking in diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s disease.

Bottom line: the data on the effects of kefir on the digestive organs are not conclusive and require additional research, but experience has shown that kefir helps with many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract – this is mainly due to the presence of probiotics. At the same time, kefir is not recommended for people suffering from increased acidity. It is worth remembering that fresh kefir has laxative properties, while the “old” has the opposite effect.

Kefir has antibacterial properties.

Since kefir is a strong probiotic, it contains many good bacteria. Some of these bacteria help protect the body from infections caused by harmful microorganisms. For example, the class of beneficial bacteria Lactobacillus kefir inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli, Helicobacter and Salmonella.

Kefir reduces the risk of osteoporosis.

One of the main problems, especially among older women, is osteoporosis. To avoid it, it is necessary to provide a sufficient level of calcium, which is contained in excess in kefir. In addition, kefir has vitamin K2, which is involved in calcium metabolism, as well as phosphorus, which is essential for healthy bones.

Probiotics, which are contained in kefir, not only increase the body’s defenses but also reduce the level of carcinogenic substances. This effect prevents the development of malignant tumors. According to a study published in the Journal of Medicinal Foods, probiotics contained in kefir inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells.

Kefir is effective for allergies and asthma.

Unfortunately, allergies today are a very common disease. According to some reports, kefir helps prevent allergies due to the presence of such an element as a polysaccharide. Studies on animals have confirmed that kefir is useful for allergies and asthma, as it helps eliminate inflammation.

Kefir is well tolerated by people with lactose intolerance.

People with lactose intolerance cannot consume milk, as this can cause nausea, diarrhea, and even vomiting. In this case, milk can be replaced with fermented milk products, such as yogurt and kefir.

In one study, people who were lactose intolerant were given milk, kefir, and yogurt. When consuming kefir, abdominal distention was 71% less than when consuming milk. Among study participants who consumed yogurt instead of milk, the percentage of abdominal distention was 54% less.

Kefir is a useful fermented milk product. However, not everyone will be useful. There are several cases where kefir can be harmful to the body.

  • Absolutely for all men, women, and children the product is harmful in stale form. It reduces the amount of beneficial flora, increases pathogenic, increases the concentration of alcohol. Therefore, do not buy kefir in reserve. A spoiled drink can lead to serious poisoning. It is more useful to buy live kefir, the shelf life of which does not exceed 2 weeks.
  • A long stay on kefir mono-diet for weight loss leads to the fact that the body systematically loses the necessary amount of all the nutrients (those contained in the drink itself are not enough for the full functioning of our organs and systems). You can amass a decrease in immunity and impaired metabolism.
  • Individual intolerance is a contraindication to the use of this product.
  • It is also contraindicated for people with high acidity of gastric juice because it itself contains acid.
  • Kefir can not drink those, who have diseases of the digestive tract, such as ulcers, gastritis, pancreatitis.
  • The ban on fermented milk drinks will be in the case of reflux disease (belching, heartburn, regurgitation).
  • In the case of renal insufficiency, additional protein load when consuming kefir is also undesirable.
  • Children are not recommended to use the product before the age of one due to the risk of bloating or colic, and not because of the presence of alcohol.

Is fat-free kefir healthier than usual?

Better still choose kefir with a fat content of 3.2%. Fat-free kefir does not contain fat, and fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin D, in the absence of fat molecules are not absorbed. And the same vitamin D is necessary for the absorption of calcium.

Important! A person who reduces weight is recommended 1 percent kefir. If you do not stick to a diet, then you can eat and drink more fat.

How is bio kefir different from usual?

Is kefir better than milk?

Kefir as a drink is more useful than milk for adults since fermented milk bacteria not only activates intestinal motility and suppresses pathogenic microorganisms, preventing fermentation and rotting from occurring but also helps to digest casein (cow’s milk protein), promote the absorption of vitamins, calcium and iron.

Important! Calcium from kefir is absorbed much better than from milk.

Milk also makes it harder to absorb iron compared to kefir.

How much kefir can I drink per day?
